About the Artist

Award-winning artist Cathy Gibbons grew up in Virginia and Southern California, where she had a love of drawing since she could walk. First studying fine art at the University of California, Santa Cruz, she later furthered her studies in oil painting at California Art Institute in Westlake Village. Her landscape paintings reveal her captivation by the interplay of brilliant light and warm, rich and muted hues of the Western landscape. Cathy paints in oil, in a loose style reminiscent of impressionism. “My goal is to capture the mood and the magic of the landscape rather than every detail.” Equally inspired by the spirit and inherent beauty that emanate from each and every person and animal, she also paints the human figure, also with loose and colorful brush strokes. Cathy emerged as an artist in Prescott, Arizona, showing her work in several galleries and juried art shows. She moved from Prescott to the Los Angeles area, where she showed her work in several juried art shows. She now resides in the Sacramento area in California, where she is a member of the Sacramento Fine Arts Center and Northern Califiornia Art Association. Cathy's paintings have won numerous awards in Arizona and California. Cathy also has for several years taught art to children.

While living in Prescott Arizona, she volunteered to help with the Mural Beyond Words mural project at the Prescott Public Library in 2009-2010, where she painted several faces of historial figures.
